Trends come and go. That's the nature of a trend. So do companies, people, and things we love from Trader Joes. One day it's here, the next, gone. As times change (remember the floppy disc?) some things stay the same. Or evolve, and get better. While technology has allowed us to work at lightening speeds, connection to information and each other 24/7, there are some things that by the nature of what they are, allow us some time to disconnect. Unplug. Retreat. For these businesses and people, technology has allowed them to market when they're not there. A web presence. Yelp. Facebook. All supporting what they do, their cause, or to give us information available 24/7. In the end, it's still their service that they're offering. In person. A website can never replace that. For that, we should all be grateful.

Volunteering

People who are very active in fundraising are using Facebook as a source to sign people up for events and driving them to the organization directly to take donations. In the end it's because of all their hard work that makes it all possible. Help someone you know by showing up at an event. Or walking in support. You can make a difference by just being there. Or donating $5 dollars.

A Great Massage

Does it even matter than Blackberry had some massage setting on the phone? Or there's an iphone app for that? I don't care that the chair at the nail salon vibrates. Nothing replaces having someone work on your tense shoulders or lower back from sitting at a desk all day long. While a therapist might have an online presence that you can book an appointment with, you still need to have that one on one time.

Nature

Screen savers don't count. We need vitamin D. No arguing that. Nothing can replace nature. While we can find weather forecasts online, look at other people's vacation videos on youtube, nothing can replace fresh air and sunshine.

Friends and Family

You might have hundreds of friends on Facebook and connect with people through Skype, but how many of those friends would you feel comfortable calling up and talking to? Make time for your real friends and family. Go out for dinner. See a movie. Because nothing can replace them.
