winter 2012 news: when it's time to change

There's something about the new year that always conjures up the thoughts of change. It's as if the clock and life/work and everything in between gets to start over. But instead of thinking new, I suggest shifting and thinking about evolving. Great ideas, companies, and even people don't just start off being great. It takes time, energy, and a lot of work. And if you've read anything about Steve Jobs lately, he talks about how some of his biggest successes came after failing.

But this isn't about that either. This is about working from where you are right now. Some things may be working great, others not so. Start there and build. We did it for ourselves. And you can too. Whether it's about making a change like refreshing a logo that's looking a little dated, or implementing a newer technology to help customers find you easier, no one said to start over. Start here. And you might just find that's a great place to be.

what we did to our own look.

We simplified. Keeping our own marketing materials to a limited color palette to reinforce our own brand. This included implementation on a wide scale. Web, print, and direct mail all went to a three system color palette with black and white photography. The work we produce for our clients is shown in full color.

Who got it right the first time?

Most companies don't. They might start off strong, but as times change, most companies evolve in some way. Not necessarily scraping everything they've done before. That's what brand equity is. Check out some of these companies and how they've changed over the years.

coming full circle?

I've said it before. I'll say it again. It's the message not the medium. Web is the most immediate, but don't discount the physical. There's something to be said for receiving something in the mail. I've noticed more of our clients are going back to direct mail. And beyond the two dimensional. They're thinking big. Not only in their marketing campaigns, but the delivery method.

go against what you consider traditional

How many holiday emails did you get in December? Or cards, gift baskets, and donations made in your name? Probably a lot. Because it's that time of the year. But what about doing something different? Check out some of these lesser know happenings. Yes, it should still be connected to what you do. But it also can be a lot more memorable.
